In 1945, Roosevelt’s efforts to expand inclusion and equity in higher education began with an act of courage by administrators, faculty and students — the people of Roosevelt University. Now fast-forward 78 years to today; this same courage catalyzes the work of our people as they live out our mission and values.

In preparing this issue of The Review, I had the pleasure to meet many of the individuals featured. I immediately recognized their shared, genuine desire to make a difference. Each graciously offers their authentic self in order to help others achieve their full potential, and they face challenges with courage. Their stories are a celebration of individuality and a collective diversity.

My own experience as a Roosevelt student was defined by the people around me … peers, faculty and staff with life experiences far different from my own. I’m proud to remain part of this community, and I know I am better because of those with whom I’ve crossed paths. Those people are my Roosevelt story.

This issue opens with Letters, a new section inspired by alumna Judith Levinson’s letter to me. I look forward to sharing future letters from the community — particularly those about the people part of your Roosevelt story. I wholeheartedly believe that we, as humans, yearn for meaningful connections with others. There’s so much for us to learn from one another if we are open-minded and willing to listen (or read). I hope you enjoy this magazine.
