Redesigned Teacher Preparation Programs Approved by Faculty


Innovative and comprehensive changes to the college’s undergraduate- and graduate-level initial teacher preparation programs have been approved by the faculty. The redesigned programs are scheduled for implementation in fall 2018.

New Library Information and Technology Leadership MA Begins Summer 2018


Applications are now being accepted for admission to the new Library Information and Technology Leadership graduate degree program. Licensed teachers can learn to become effective information technology leaders in diverse school environments and be eligible to add valuable endorsements to their Illinois teaching licenses.

Roosevelt Offers Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education at Harper College


Looking to make one of its four-year degrees even more accessible, Roosevelt now offers a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education at Harper College in Palatine, Illinois.

Clinical Competence


In spring 2017, 100 percent of Roosevelt’s counseling interns’ site supervisors agreed or strongly agreed that the Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling produces knowledgeable counselors who demonstrate clinical competence.

Over the same time period in spring 2017, Roosevelt’s elementary student teachers exceeded state and national total score averages on the edTPA performance assessment by approximately one point. Our early childhood student teachers exceeded the same averages by approximately three points.

Silver Buffalo Award Winner


Ken King, professor of elementary education, received the Silver Buffalo Award, the highest commendation given by the Boy Scouts of America for service to the organization. The award has been bestowed upon 15 U.S. presidents, including Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Golden Apple Foundation Award


For the third consecutive year, an alumnus of the Educational Leadership program won the Golden Apple Foundation’s prestigious Leadership Award for school principals. This year’s winner was Gregory Jones (MA, ’98), principal of Kenwood Academy High School in Chicago.

Advanced Graduate Program Growth


Strong partnerships with the Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Teachers Union produced 14 percent growth in our advanced graduate programs for counselors and licensed teachers and fueled an overall increase in college enrollment not seen in several years.

National Recognition for Teacher Preparation Programs


Roosevelt’s College of Education became the first provider of teacher preparation training in Illinois to be accredited by the new Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Roosevelt Approved to Provide Professional Development Support for Illinois Schools


A College of Education proposal to provide professional development support to Illinois schools was approved by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) as part of its IL-EMPOWER initiative.

Successful Year for Fundraising in 2017


On the heels of receiving its largest gift of $25 million last year, Roosevelt became the beneficiary of nearly $17 million in major gifts and grants during 2017, including a $2.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education for the Illinois Dual Language Teacher Leadership Program.
