Arthur Fain (BSC, ’46) of Buffalo Grove, Ill. died in October 2017. He served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Garson Goodman (BA, ’46) of Dana Point, Calif. died Jan. 9, 2018. He fought with the 1st Marine Division in the U.S. Navy.
Merwyn Brodsky (BS, ’49) of Lincolnshire, Ill. died Feb. 10, 2018. He served as associate chemist at Brookhaven National Laboratory and retired as Senior Scientist from Argonne National Laboratory.
Donald Jacobs (BA, ’49) of Evanston, Ill. died Oct. 30, 2017. Jacobs was dean of Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management for 26 years, leading with tenacity, courage and foresight, making it one of the world’s premier players in graduate management education.
Doris Notarius (BS, ’49) of Miami, Fla. died Sept. 18, 2017.

Ira Eichner (BA, ’50) of Winnetka, Ill. died in January 2018. He was chairman emeritus and founder of AAR CORP, a global aviation service firm.
Bertram Eisner (BA, ’50) of Nashville, Tenn. died in October 2017.
Eleanor Lukazewski (BS, ’50) of Geneva, Ill. died Dec. 17, 2017. She was the director of the pharmacy at Ravenswood Hospital.
Sheldon Silverman (BSC, ’50) of Tucson, Ariz. died Jan. 8, 2018. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II and was regional sales manager for Goody for 22 years.
Julian Moes (BA, ’51; MA, ’55) of Santa Rosa, Calif. died Oct. 1, 2017. He was the executive director for Rosewood Empire Industries for 20 years and proudly advocated for disabled adults.
Louis Zorich (BA, ’51) of New York died Jan. 30, 2018. He served in the engineering firefighting platoon attached to General George S. Patton’s command during World War II. He was a stage actor best known for his roles on TV’s “Mad About You” and the movie “The Muppets Take Manhattan.”
Ruth Stockhouse (BA, ’52) of Bloomington, Ind., died Oct. 23, 2017. She worked for the Chicago office of Time Inc., retiring after 37 years of service.
Dorothy Wreschnig (MM, ’52) of Milwaukee, Wis. died Jan. 11, 2018. She taught in both public and private schools in Milwaukee and owned her own private studio.
Emmett Bradbury (BS, ’53) of Chicago died Jan. 18, 2017.
Emma Dombai (BSC, ’53) of Chicago died Sept. 6, 2017.
Martin Schatz (BSC, ’53) of Chicago died in January 2018. He served in the U.S. Army Engineer Corp and worked for Sears, Roebuck & Co., retiring as a senior system consultant.
Bruce Golden (BA, ’54) of Chicago died Sept. 25, 2017. He was one of the first surgeons to implant an intraocular lens. He and his wife, Annette, started one the first computerized medical billing systems, called Marca. He was awarded an Endowed Chair of Experimental Ophthalmology established by the Blindness Research Foundation.
Marian Shaffer (BA, ’54) of Portland, Ore. died Nov. 1, 2017.
William Gershon (BA, ’56) of Skokie, Ill. died in January 2018.
Carter Carroll (BA, ’57) of Geneva, Ill. died Dec. 12, 2017. He taught history at the College of DuPage, where he also served as dean and was awarded Teacher of the Year on numerous occasions.
Donald Brugmann (BA, ’58) of West Chicago died March 3, 2018. He served in the U.S. Army. He also served the Greater Europe Mission for 33 years and, in his retirement, helped found Zaporozhye Bible College in Ukraine.
Carolyn Gopin (BA, ’59) of El Paso, Texas died Jan. 28, 2018. She was an elementary school teacher in the Chicago Public Schools.

Robert Harris (BS, ’60) of McHenry, Ill. died July 8, 2017. Harris fought in the Korean War and worked as an analytical chemist in research and development for Sherwin-Williams, Iovite Chemicals and McWhorter.
Rodney Lewis (MA, ’60) of Highland Park, Ill. died Aug. 31, 2017.
Leonard Rospond (BSBA, ’60) of Bella Vista, Ark. died Sept. 8, 2017. He served as a medical detachment sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Delores Samuels (BA, ’60) of Chicago died in January 2018. She worked for the University of Illinois for 44 years before retiring.
John Brehm (BSBA, ’61) of Oak Forest, Ill. died in May 2017.
Freya Greenspahn (BA, `61) of Naples, Fla. died in December 2017.
Irene Lane (BA, ’61) of East Lansing, Ind. died in January 2018. Lane worked as a caseworker for Child Protective Services. She retired from the Greenburgh Central 7 School district in 1995.
Robert Wattel (BSBA, ’61) of Chicago died March 18, 2018. He was a founding partner of Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises.
Renee Mann (BA, ’62) of Doylestown, Pa. died Nov. 14, 2017.
Michael McNamara (BA, ’62) of Western Springs, Ill. died Dec. 11, 2017. He served in the United States Marine Corps and began his career as an auditor. He retired as CFO of Schwinn Bicycle Company after 25 years.
Kerchal Armstrong (MM, ’63) of Indianapolis, Ind. died Dec. 12, 2017. He chaired the Fine Arts Department at Sioux Falls College. He was the pastor of music and worship at Faith Missionary Church.
Dolores Baker (BA, ’64) of Chicago died March 21, 2018. She worked for Governors State University as the continuing education coordinator until her retirement in 1996.
Dena Culbertson (BA, ’63) of Watsonville, Calif. died Sept. 2, 2017. She worked as a teacher, social worker and employment counselor.
Joseph Lerner (BA, ’64) of Morton, Ill. died Nov. 19, 2017. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a journalist for 14 years.
John Urschel (MA, ’64) of Austin, Texas died July 31, 2017.
William Reiser (MBA, ’65) of Victoria, Texas died July 23, 2017.

Crawford Cox (BSBA, ’67) of Jacksonville, Fla. died Feb. 16, 2018. He served in the U.S. Army and retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1967. He worked in the motor pool for the city of Jacksonville until he opened his own motorcycle shop.
Marlene Frankel (MA, ’67) of Chicago died Jan. 27, 2018. She had a long career as a physical education teacher for the Chicago Public Schools.
Irene Lavelle (MA, ’67) of Prospect Heights, Ill. died Jan. 5, 2017. She established the Language Department at Harper College.
Basil Nwosu (BA, ’67; MA, ’74) of Raleigh, N.C. died Nov. 13, 2017. He was an education and technology consultant.
Raymond Parks (BS, ’67) of Chicago died Dec. 9, 2017. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Mary Roberts (MA, ’67) of Chicago died July 2017. She worked for Chicago Public Schools for 38 years.
Cheryl Watrobka (BSBA, ’68) of Austin, Texas died Oct. 4, 2017. She was a certified records manager and worked for several companies before retiring in 2012.

Mary Kepner (MA, ’70) of Canton, Ohio died Sept. 12, 2017. She was a teacher until her retirement.
Ray Clark (MBA, ’70) of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. died Jan. 17, 2018. He served in active duty for 20 years, retiring as a lieutenant commander in 1972.
William Pelz (BA, ’71; MA, ’72) of Chicago died Dec. 10, 2017. He was the founder of the Institute of Working Class History and co-founded the International Association for the Study of Strikes and Social Conflict.
Thomas Pritchett (BGS, ’71; MA, ’75) of Dayton, Ohio died Jan. 7, 2017. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during the Korean War. He became involved in the development of the Emergency Medical Service system that resulted in the 911 emergency line.
Sandra Lauer (MA, ’72) of Peoria, Ill. died Dec. 11, 2017. She taught in the Chicago Public Schools and worked as a counselor at the Human Services Center.
Flen Wingard (MA, ’72) of Savannah, Ga. died July 13, 2017. He served as a career officer until 1976 and retired as a lieutenant colonel.
Larry Zanco (MA, ’72) of Waukegan, Ill. died Nov. 15, 2017. He was an educator with a career spanning four decades working in the 64th Elementary School District of Chicago.
Cheryl Alvarez (BA, ’73; MA, ’75 & ’76) of South Bend, Ind. died Oct. 24, 2017. She had a 35-year career as a Spanish teacher, an adjunct college professor, and a middle- and high school teacher.
William Luikaart (BSBA, ’73) of Lake Saint Louis, Mo. died Jan. 5, 2018. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and owned a Mrs. Field’s cookie store.
Kirk Madsen (BSBA, ’73) of Vero Beach, Fla. died Feb. 13, 2018. He owned Apache Systems Construction.
Jerry Haapanen (MA, ’74) of Wadsworth, Ill. died July 29, 2017. He was a teacher at West High School, led Boy Scout Troop 75 and served as a coach for Gurnee Little League Baseball.
Robert Reif (BSBA, ’74) of Waukegan, Ill. died Aug. 29, 2017.
Richard Anderson (BGS, ’75) of Chicago died Dec. 30, 2017. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was a VP and senior vice president of various banks for 37 years.
Virginia Wendorf (BSBA, ’75) of Burlington, Iowa died Nov. 9, 2017. Wendorf was a member of Alpha Phi – Beta Alpha since 1953. She was a CPA and worked for the Chicago Transit Authority until her retirement in 1993.
Kerry Curry (BA, ’76) of Homewood, Ill. died in March 2018. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and National Society Daughters of the Union.
Virginia Grossman (MA, ’76) of Wilmette, Ill. died Dec. 27, 2017. She was active in animal rights issues and was a longtime volunteer with Friends of the Library. She worked as a school psychologist until her retirement.
Helen Kilfoy (MA, ’76) of East Lansing, Mich. died Dec. 8, 2017. She was an avid historian and traced her genealogy back to the American Revolution.
Paul Camastro (MM, ’77) of Chicago died Nov. 8, 2017. He was in the food business for 40 years and a passionate high school coach for 30 years.
Lester Sznitko (BGS, ’77; MSA, ’83) of Mundelein, Ill. died Jan. 31, 2018. He was a CPA and consultant.
Anita Greenberg (MM, ’78) of Evanston, Ill. died Nov. 5, 2017. She was active in community theatre for more than two decades, after which she launched her own musical theatre company, Prologue Theatre Productions.
Joseph Ender (MSA, ’78) of Cicero, Ill. died Feb. 25, 2018. He was the co-owner of Corcoran Ender & Associates.
Henry Morehead (BGS, ’79) of Kenosha, Wis. died Dec. 28, 2017. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Joseph Riotto (MBA, ’79) of Stewartsville, N.J. died Nov. 18, 2017. He was a CPA and avid Chicago sports fan, especially the Blackhawks.
Gerald Shields (MBA, ’79) of Lake Forest, Ill. died Aug. 9, 2017. He was president of the board of the North Business and Industrial Council, and a member of the Chicago Economic Development Commission and Mayor Daley’s Chicago Workforce Board.

Mary Civello (MA, ’82) of Libertyville., Ill. died Jan. 8, 2018. She taught children with special needs.
Marie Kelly (BGS, ’83) of West Chicago died in March 2018.
Judson Roberts (BSBA, ’83) of Oak Park, Ill. died Feb. 10, 2017. He served as chaplain for the Oak Park Police Department, where he was a counselor.
Kathleen Matschke (MA, ’84) of Hammond, Ind. died Nov. 20, 2017. She was a very gifted teacher who spent her life working with special needs students.
Thomas Talbot (BGS, ’84) of Arlington Heights, Ill. died Feb. 22, 2018. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an Airman Third Class and continued in the reserves for seven years.
Ralph Harlander (BA, ’85) of North Riverside, Ill. died in August 2017.
Michael Diaz (BGS, ’86) of Peoria, Ariz. died July 11, 2017. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 25 years, where he achieved the rank of chief master sergeant.

Marjorie Schaller (MA, ’88) of Naperville, Ill. died Feb. 3, 2018. She taught at Northbrook and Rolling Meadows high schools for many years and volunteered at Clearbrook in Arlington Heights, Ill.
Joseph Yeager (BA, ’89) of Elmhurst, Ill. died Nov. 27, 2017. He worked as a substitute teacher in Illinois.

Scott Schuth (BSBA, ’90) of Elmwood Park, Ill. died March 12, 2018. He was an assistant professor of instructional technology at Concordia University.
Paul Sullenger (BFA, ’92) of Centerville, Ohio died Feb. 1, 2018. He had an extensive career in performing arts as a singer, dancer and actor. He worked for Disney and performed for Wolfgang Puck and Oprah Winfrey.
Judith Horner (MA, ’97) of Rolling Meadows, Ill. died Nov. 3, 2017.
Norma Smith (EdD, ’97) of Madison, Miss. died Dec. 28, 2017. She was a civil rights activist who worked with Medgar Evers and James Meredith.

Elmo Gonzalez (BGS, ’05) of Chicago died Aug. 11, 2017. He served in the wars in Korea and Vietnam.
Kenneth Zehnder (MA, ’05) of Huntley, Ill. died Nov. 28, 2017. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.
Joseph Welk (MBA, ’05) of Mount Prospect, Ill. died in December 2017. He worked for and held a medical industry patent through Abbott Laboratories.
Jason Klinowski (BA, ’07) of Palos Heights, Ill. died in August 2017.
Claudia Flack (BM, ’08) of Chicago died in March 2018. She was a longtime piano teacher.
