“Alphabets of Black Cultures” by Jeffrey Daniels

Jeffrey Daniels is a new media artist, poet, and technologist based in Chicago. He is an Associate Professor of English Literature and Creative Writing tenured at Harold Washington College, Art History of Games instructor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), and previously taught at Columbia College Chicago and the American Academy of Art. Daniels holds advanced degrees in English Literature, Creative Writing, and Art Technology. His games, writings, and digital art are available online and represented in public and private collections worldwide. Pictured is Daniels during his childhood years.

 

Read Aloud Tips

  • Throughout reading this book with students, ask them to think about how this is similar or different to their own lives and culture. Allow space for any students to share.
  • Have students take turns reading pages to the rest of the class. Encourage active participation and discussion for students to explore what they appreciate or find interest in.
