Achieving Professional Visibility Through Content Creation by Susana Gómez Ornelas and Claudia Della Pona

As young professionals, entering or returning to the workforce in the age of COVID and social distancing, it can be hard to make oneself visible in the job market and to stand out in one’s industry/field.

Hear from two recent alumni who share their experiences as job seekers, and how they have used their social media channels and podcast (Bias Check-in) to craft their professional presence – online and off-line.

Presenters:
Susana Gómez Ornelas (MA Organization Psychology, ’21)
Claudia Della Pona (MBA, MA Organization Psychology, ’20)

Realizing the challenges of finding employment as both early-career industrial-organizational psychologists and international graduate students, they started recording a podcast, Bias Check-in, to share their experiences and with other job seekers and international students. Since hitting “record” for the first time in the summer of 2020, they have been selected to participate in a panel at SIOP 2021, the national conference for Industrial-Organizational Psychology. And both are registered volunteers with The Otherwise Invisible Consulting, a pro-bono effort to offer support to smaller businesses. Susana is also the content creator behind @work_psych, an online community where she shares knowledge about healthy workplaces and organizational psychology. Claudia is currently serving as an associate professor of Industrial-organizational psychology at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, her undergraduate alma mater.
