On this page you’ll find information about our various skill-building opportunities related to research. Eventually, you will find online training modules. In the meantime, please look out for presentations about research around campus, during the semester. We will also be offering extended workshops for students with a developed project idea, who can benefit from focused, guided proposal-development activities. Each program is designed to target students with different levels of preparedness to participate in research, and develop their research skills and projects. Browse through to learn about our different options and contact us if you have further questions about our programs.
The Research Academy provides research skills that prepare students to conduct scholarly activity in their area of study.
Short Orientation Workshops & Extended Design Workshops
We offer workshops that allow students to build knowledge and familiarity with research techniques–and create different research projects and proposals– through workshops targeting students at different levels. Short orientation workshops, each a series, are designed to build students' familiarity with research, more generally, and research within each discipline.
Extended workshops will be offered to offer students a period of time when they can receive directed and dedicated time to completing a research project proposal. Workshops will provide instructions and coaching through each section of the proposal.
Orientation: Learning about Research, Tools and Resources
What does research entail? What are examples of research and creative scholarship projects? How does this vary by discipline?
Extended Design Workshops
Students applying for external fellowships and opportunities, often spend months preparing their materials. Research writing cohorts are formed in Spring and Summer, providing exercises and prompts to build students' understandings of the information and narratives that applications request, as well as allowing students to explore different approaches to answering them.
