There are a number of ways to participate in research & inquiry activities while you are a student at Roosevelt. You should seek out this opportunities while you are a student, whether or not you are currently interested in a research career or a PhD program. When you conduct research, not only do you learn about the topic and methods, but you also bolster professional skills, such as project development & management, communication, time management and self-direction.
To get involved in research, you do not always need to be familiar with research methods already! With a research assistantship, you can learn about research and inquiry, while conducting it. Look for research assistant opportunities with professors, graduate students, or professional researchers. Typically you will spend 5-10 hours a week assisting them with research & inquiry tasks related to their projects. Like an internship, it is common to conduct some unpaid work, however, you may be able to develop proposals to fund this work, or eventually identify some paid opportunities.
Once you have built research skills, we recommend designing and conducting faculty-mentored independent projects, designed around your interests. Look to OSR resources for ideas to connect your interests to inquiry projects and questions; you may further refine them in meetings and program activities with faculty and staff.
