New Appointments in Academic Affairs

Dear Roosevelt Community,

I am pleased to announce that Mablene Krueger has been appointed interim provost and executive vice president, and Mike Maly, senior vice provost for academic affairs, effective immediately. Mablene currently serves as the chief operating officer for the Schaumburg Campus and is the former president of Robert Morris University Illinois. She is a strategic academic leader with a distinguished career in higher education for over 35 years and is especially passionate about the strengths and challenges of first-generation students.

During her time as RMUI’s president, Krueger spearheaded a plan to refocus the University on its core mission and student outcomes. These efforts led to consolidating campuses, strengthening services and restructuring the institutional discount model to more closely align with the mission. At Roosevelt University, Mablene is currently leading the strategic planning process and has worked closely with faculty, administration, students and strategic partners to build a strong presence in the northwestern suburbs.

In addition to her associate degree from Robert Morris, Krueger holds a BA in management and an MBA from University of Illinois at Springfield, and a certificate in IT systems from the University of Chicago.

Professor Mike Maly has been an integral part of the Roosevelt community for 24 years. He holds a PhD in sociology from Loyola University Chicago and is a renowned urban sociologist, authoring two books and over 10 academic articles. Professor Maly received tenure and promotion to associate professor in 2002-2003 and became full professor in 2016. He served as sociology department chair from 2005 until 2014, when he founded the Policy Research Collaborative, an on-campus research center where he served as director until 2017.

Professor Maly was appointed vice provost for research and faculty success in 2017 and since that time has overseen $19.3 million in grants and contracts, and has established the Equity Teaching Academy, Office of Student Research and McNair Scholars Program. In addition to his current responsibilities, Professor Maly will be responsible for review of tenure promotion (RTP).

Please join me in congratulating Mablene and Mike on their new roles.

With warm regards,

Ali R. Malekzadeh, Ph.D.
