 What does it mean to be a Senator with SGA? 

As the representatives of the student body as a whole, student senators hold invaluable roles on our Student Government Association. Senators have the right to bring up issues or student concerns, to introduce proposals, and to debate as well as vote over issues or proposals on behalf of the student body in weekly public General Assembly Meetings.

What is the purpose of SGA?

RUSGA is the representative of 4,500 plus students. Its purpose is to collaborate with professors and administrators to improve student life and provide valuable learning experiences. We strive to unite the student body and to foster a positive climate throughout our university!

Senator Eligibility

The Senate of the Student Government Association shall be an assembly of undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in one of the colleges at the institution. Special Representatives from student organizations may petition for and hold seats in the Senate dependent upon a simple majority vote of the Senate. In addition, all senators must be in good standing in relationship to their academic and student conduct. This will be verified by a university official.

**Special note: non-degree seeking students, certificate program students, and continuing education students without degree enrollment are not eligible**

All senators must be able to attend the required General Assembly meetings held on Mondays from 6-7pm. Both virtual and in-person options will be made available. These meetings are usually scheduled twice a month, and in respect of university closures or holidays.

Academic Requirements

Undergraduate: Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher

Master’s Degree Students: Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

Doctoral Degree Students: Cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher

Timeline & Review Process

The senator application shall open by Monday, September 14, 2020 at 5pm and will close on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 by 5pm for the first official recruitment phase.

Applicant review will take place and initial invitations for eligible parties will be sent by 10pm, Friday, October 3, 2020 for the swearing-in and first senate General Assembly meeting of the year on Monday, October 5, 2020 at 6pm.
