Where RU?

Robert J. Bales, Jr. (BA, ’75) worked as a caseworker for the State of Illinois and is a composer and chess “master-solver.” He is the author of several books, including It Takes A Valium, One, and Negative Thought for Social Change. He has written more than 300 song lyrics and is active in his community.

James Carlini (BM, ’76) was published in the National Military Intelligence Foundation’s American Intelligence Journal. His whitepaper, “NANOKRIEG: Attaining Global Net Superiority” discusses cyberwarfare and establishing cybersecurity for critical infrastructure in the 21st century.

Marianne J. (Calabrese) McGeary (BA, ’77) retired from Marine Leadership Academy in 2017 after 22 years teaching high school English and theater. She is currently an adjunct professor in the School of Education at Saint Xavier University in Chicago.

Victoria King (BSBA, ’82) is the author of four romance novels including Her Strong Tower, Cast the First Stone, A Friendly Bet and The Search is Over: The Girl Next Door. She has also written a daily devotional book, Taking AIM: Affirming, Inspiring, and Motivating and one children’s book, Amy’s New Dress. She has spoken at Longfellow Elementary School in Eastlake, Ohio and plans to speak at more schools in the future.

Dr. Charles J. Smith (BM, ’94) performed in a piano recital at the Harold Washington Library in honor of National Autism Awareness Month, with help from Celebration of Joy Inc. Smith regularly performs across the Chicagoland area and speaks publicly about living with autism.

Monty Learn (BGS, ’99) completed his BGS from Roosevelt in 1998 and pursued a future in IT management. He is now retired in North Carolina.

Michael Andrews (MBA, ’08) works as a principal examiner with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). Andrews also works as an instructor of finance in the Walter E. Heller College of Business at Roosevelt University, and spends his free time traveling and spending time outdoors with his wife, two daughters, and dog.

Ashley Mouldon (BA, ’09) just celebrated her five-year anniversary doing her “heart work” at a Seattle youth development nonprofit.

Roenan Patt (BS, ’09) works as a litigation and trial attorney in commercial litigation (construction law, business disputes, non-competes, transportation including working with motor carriers, freight forwarders, and brokers).

Katrina Thompson (MA, ’09) became the first African American woman mayor in the Village of Broadview in 2017. She is proud to be a member of the graduating class of 2009.

Daniel Smrokowski (BA, ’12) is the founder of Special Chronicles, a nonprofit new media network that gives respect and voice to people with special needs. Smrokowski is also involved as an athlete and global messenger with Special Olympics Illinois. Through his work as a podcaster, blogger, award-winning journalist, public speaker, multimedia specialist, radio show host, and award-winning Special Olympics athlete, he enjoys spreading the message to respect and give voice to others, like himself, who were branded with the “disability” label.

Jen Krasny (BS, ’13) considers herself lucky for obtaining a job in her chosen field and currently works at Shedd Aquarium as part of their Animal Programs team.

Evan F. Moore (MA, ’14) works at the Chicago Sun-Times as a digital content producer. He was recently named a finalist for the Peter Lisagor Award for best individual blog post, independent.

Ariel Viera (BS, ’15) currently works at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education as an accreditation administrator for osteopathic accreditation. She is also pursuing her MBA with a concentration in health administration at Roosevelt University.
