Thanks to a grant from A Better Chicago, Roosevelt University has launched the Metropolitan Chicago Tutoring Corps (MCTC) in collaboration with the Chicago Public School District and other colleges in the Chicago area. Corps members provide paid, high-dosage tutoring during the school day in reading and literacy to elementary students in select CPS schools. The MCTC is a focused effort to address the learning and socio-emotional needs of Chicago students and prepare them for success as schools emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Current teacher candidates and college students, as well as recent college graduates, are strongly encouraged to apply to participate in the MCTC. In addition to being paid $20-22 an hour to tutor 20-32 hours per week, all Corps members will receive coaching and support for travel and child care expenses. Current teacher candidates may be able to apply their time as tutors toward the fulfillment of licensure requirements. The MCTC is a unique opportunity to obtain knowledge and skills applicable to a variety of career goals and to make a difference in the city of Chicago.
