“Latino/a/x Culture and Literature” Projects (Spring 2022)

Albany Park

Eddie Thurmond, Onteya Zachary, Kitzia Ruvalcab, and Jordan Troche visited the Chicago neighborhood of Albany Park. The group found a shared interest in the ability of the community to act as a resilient and unified body despite unique hardships each community faced.  The group learned more about each other over several lunches and visits to the panaderia in Albany Park. Humboldt Park

Lydia GroezingerMiranda Gomez, and Gabriel Gonzalez visited the Chicago neighborhood of Humboldt Park. The group found a shared interest in community expression as well as the symbolism of postcards in representing destinations. Little Village

Jiaonny Jenkins and their group visited the Chicago neighborhood of Little Village. Logan Square

Adaly NavarroAzalia Resendiz, Alexis Polizzi, and Emily Hernandez visited the Chicago neighborhood of Logan Square. Their experiences individually and collectively brought to their mind inquiries about gentrification, the experience of gentrification, as well as the impact of gentrification in the Logan Square neighborhood. Pilsen

Taylor Bradley, Denise Dominguez, and Mira Cameron visited the Chicago neighborhood of Pilsen. The trio ate (and ranked) delicious local food and received a behind-the-scenes tour of a kitchen in a local panaderia due to the generosity of the bakery owner!
