Roosevelt University’s MA in Dual Language Teacher Leadership (DLTL) prepares licensed teachers to implement innovative instructional and leadership strategies that support dual language education—a dynamic, highly effective form of education in which students are taught literacy and content in two languages. Upon completion of the program, candidates will be eligible to add both the Bilingual/ESL and Teacher Leader endorsements to their Illinois teaching license.

Graduates of this program can be employed as dual language, bilingual, ESL or mainstream teachers. They might fill roles such as teacher leader, coach or bilingual/ESL director. The program plan is designed around the needs of teachers:

  • Summer: 3-Week Intensive On-Campus
  • Fall: Online
  • Spring: Online
  • Summer: 3-Week Intensive On-Campus

Standards

Teachers who complete this degree have the ability to implement dual language Use 2programs in their school or district — an in-demand skill set in an ever more diverse educational system. The program is the only one of its kind in Illinois.

Students can expect focused and practical assignments, engaging discussion and small group projects, and multiple opportunities for the completion of field experiences and projects. A practicum that involves guided teaching in a Spanish Saturday School culminates the program.
