University Supervisors support Teacher candidates, especially by spending time with them on an individual basis. University Supervisors teach seminars at Roosevelt University, observe teacher candidates in the field providing verbal and written feedback on these observations, coordinate and communicate with cooperating teachers and schools, and provide other support as necessary. In short, they play a pivotal role in the Field Experience and Coaching experience, supporting both teacher candidates and cooperating teachers, as required and necessary.
University Supervisors collectively assess the quality of performance in Field Experience and Coaching courses, and support the teacher candidate in many ways, including in practice teaching. They approve the teacher candidates’ hours and complete a final evaluation of the teacher candidate. They formatively and summatively assess teacher candidates with respect to professional dispositions, instructional planning, and preservice learning, discussing their findings with individual students prior to submitting the summative Look For’s located on Tk20 (for FE 1 and FE 2), Modified Danielson Framework for Teaching Rubric (for FE 3) located on Blackboard under Assessment in “FE 3 & Student Teaching Formative Assessments folder” and Educator Disposition Assessment (EDA) located on Tk20 for all of FE 1, 2, and 3, as well as assigning a final grade. Final course grades are based on observations, conferences or other communications with the teacher candidate and cooperating teacher, completion and quality of the Field Experience and Coaching assignments, and other items listed in the course syllabus, including attendance at the seminar and participation in school and professional activities. The evaluations of cooperating teachers also inform and guide the assessments of RU teacher candidates by University Supervisors. University Supervisors complete training in Tk20 and serve as excellent resources for students as they complete their required Time Logs via the Tk20 platform.
