Coaching and Field Experiences

Field experiences at Roosevelt University are designed to provide you with instructional coaching and scaffolded practice teaching in preparation for student teaching and a career working with diverse learners, including English language learners, students with disabilities, and student populations of more than one ethnicity, race, and socio-economic status. Over a two year period of time, you will progress from analyzing the features of effective instruction with diverse learners to leading large group classroom activities. Your Roosevelt University instructional coach will guide you through a sequence of increasingly complex and challenging assignments and duties and you will interact significantly with mentor teachers in public and sometimes private schools. Your Roosevelt University instructional coach will facilitate learning relationships and activities, provide feedback on your practice teaching, and connect the lessons learned to the theories, strategies, and research introduced and explored in other courses. Last but not least, you will receive intensive preparation for the capstone assessments that take place during the student teaching experience.
