Working in the Schools Mentoring Opportunity

Roosevelt University promotes its social justice mission by partnering with Working In The Schools (WITS), an after school program that offers “one-on-one reading and mentoring.”

This program takes place in the afternoon at RU. Once a week, WITS buses drop off a group of elementary school students at RU, where each student is paired with a volunteer. Pairs will work together for an entire school year. A volunteer and student will spend one hour a week doing activities, reading and working on homework. Children who participate in WITS on campus are typically fourth and fifth graders.

A program coordinator is on site at each session. WITS provides training (no previous experience is required), all books and materials, and transportation for the students.
